Privacy Policy

HandleMe is built on a simple promise: we do not collect, store, or sell your personal data. This policy explains exactly what that means.

Short answer: HandleMe has no database. We do not store your name, email, conversations, videos, or any personal information. Our servers only help two browsers connect; after that, your conversation happens directly between you and the other person.

What Data Does HandleMe Collect?

HandleMe is designed to collect as little data as possible. Here is what we do and do not collect:

Data Type Collected? Why / Notes
Name or email No No account required.
Phone number No No verification needed.
Chat messages No Messages travel peer-to-peer, not through our servers.
Video or audio recordings No WebRTC streams directly between users.
IP address logs No We do not log or store IP addresses.
Display name Optional, temporary Only shared during the session; not stored afterward.
Analytics events Optional, with consent Only if you explicitly allow analytics. No personal data is included.

How Does HandleMe Work Without a Database?

Traditional apps store user profiles, messages, and media on central servers. HandleMe does the opposite:

  1. You open HandleMe in your browser.
  2. You choose a role and topic.
  3. Our server matches you with another user.
  4. A WebRTC connection is established directly between your browsers.
  5. Your video, audio, and text flow peer-to-peer — not through us.
  6. When the session ends, the connection closes and no data remains.

Cookies and Local Storage

HandleMe does not use tracking cookies. We may use temporary browser storage (such as sessionStorage) for purely functional purposes, such as remembering your age-gate confirmation during your current visit. This data is cleared when you close the tab.

Analytics

We offer optional analytics to help us understand app usage. Analytics is only enabled if you explicitly consent. Even then, we do not track names, chat text, peer identities, or other sensitive information. You can decline analytics at any time.

Advertising

HandleMe may display ads to non-premium users. We do not use personal data for ad targeting because we do not collect personal data. Ads are shown generically based on placement, not user profiles.

Third-Party Services

We use WebRTC, which is built into modern browsers, and standard STUN/TURN servers to help connections work across networks. These servers may see connection metadata but cannot access your conversation content. We do not share data with advertisers, data brokers, or social networks.

Your Responsibilities

While HandleMe does not store your data, you are responsible for what you choose to share during a session. We recommend:

  • Using a generic display name.
  • Keeping your camera off if you prefer anonymity.
  • Not sharing personal, financial, or identifying information.
  • Reporting users who violate community guidelines.

Children's Privacy

HandleMe is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe a minor has used the platform, please contact us.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the platform evolves. The latest version will always be available at this page. Significant changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I delete my HandleMe data?

There is nothing to delete. Because HandleMe does not store user data, closing your session removes all traces of the conversation.

Can someone read my chats later?

No. Chats are not stored on any server. They exist only during the live peer-to-peer session.

Is HandleMe GDPR compliant?

HandleMe is designed to minimize data collection by default, which aligns with privacy-by-design principles. Because we do not process personal data, many GDPR obligations do not apply. If you have specific questions, please contact us.
